Birthday

Since I'll be ALMOST 30 on my birthday this year, I figure why not go big?

Here's what I want:

Now, I have taken a couple photography classes over the years, but have never actually owned a fancy camera. This camera is on the lower end of fancy, but I want to start small so I don't get in over my head. They even have a "Book for Dummies" for this camera... so I can't go wrong, right???

What kind of camera do YOU own? Do you like it? What do you recommend?

I just barely got that camera! It is still unused because I do not know how to use it yet, but Im sure that when I learn it will be great. The Rebel is one of the best you can get!

For my birthday this year I got a Nikon D90 (they have ads for it that involve Ashton Kutcher, which I just think is weird). Up to this point I've only used the "auto" setting, which takes really good pictures. They look so much nicer than my point-and-shoot. So, I can recommend the D90. It's more important to learn to use the camera you get than it is to agonize over which on is the best. That's my two cents. Happy camera hunting.

No matter what, you cannot go wrong with a digital SLR. You will always have better pictures than if you just have a straight digital camera. I'll send you an email that expounds the pros and cons of say Nikon vs. Canon, if you want. The article is about a year old or so, but the information is still good, except I'm sure the newer cameras have improved some. I've seen great deals on kits at Costco that include a bag and even another lens. But, you actually might want to wait another year or so because they are developing smaller digital SLR's that aren't so bulky in your hand. I still don't have one. I shoot with a really lousy 3 megapixel digital camera that is total junk as far as cameras go that my mom got for me like 50 years ago. Can't afford an dSLR yet and I think I'll keep waiting until the right one comes along for me...right size with all the functions I want. One thing I will say...READ THE MANUAL. I think it is so sad how many of my friends have AMAZING cameras and still take lousy pictures because they don't know how to work their settings. Such a waste, you know?!

Sheesh. Apparently I've got an opinion on this subject--ya think? Sorry to have blubbered on for so long...

Kim, I was hoping you'd share your opinion! Yes, no matter what kind of camera I know it just HAS to be a digital SLR. I plan to devote an entire day to the manual. No worries. :)

I have a Canon Rebel. It's awesome. Probably the best thing I've EVER bought.

I have a nikon D60 and love it! I've played with some of the settings, but know that there are a ton of other tricks to learn. I've had so much fun with it. Whatever you get, your pictures will be great!

David bought a Nikon D60 this summer and LOVES it. He had to take a few classes to help him understand all the gadgets, but he super loves it. And I mean SUPER loves it. Like more than me!

My sister just bought the Nikon D40 and she LOVES it too. It was definitely smaller than ours. Hmmm.

Good luck on your search.
