Honey...

So today was Asher's 2 month appointment. He is doing well and growing big (75-90% for length... who would have guessed??)

While we were there all of the sudden the doctor says "you know not to feed him honey, right?" OKAY you know the times when you have like three thoughts at the same time? That was how I reacted to his question.

Thought #1: Why would I feed him honey? He's too young for chicken nuggets.
Explanation: I only eat honey with chicken nuggets... nothing else.

Thought #2: Wait a minute... he's too young for HONEY. All he eats is milk!
Why was this my SECOND thought and not the first?
Explanation: I'm not an idiot. Just slightly sleep deprived lately.

Thought #3: Why is he asking me this??

I responded to the good doctors question by saying "No, what's wrong with honey?"

He told me about spores and botulism and all this scary stuff. So, I feel like a bad parent for never hearing anything about this before. I had no idea honey was a no no. Now I'm wondering if there are any other no nos I'm not aware of. (I can't wait to read the sarcastic comment that will inevitably come from Jon Tolman. ;) Something about how meth is a no no unless it's pure... I can only imagine.)

So, no honey and therefore no chicken nuggets for Asher for another year. Check.

Here's the kicker... tonight I watched an episode of ER in which they explain the danger of giving honey to a baby. Crap. I hate when you learn something and then all of the sudden it's as though it's common knowledge. Where the sam hill have I been?

Haha I love Jon's comments.

I thought the peanut butter thing was ok at one though. My one year old sure loves it!

And amen to honey and chicken nuggets!

You crack me up. You probably didn't know because, as you stated, you never eat honey. It says it on the bottle not to feed it to babies. Although I could be the only one that notices that. I read all labels, I'm just weird that way, I like to see what they say.

In the meantime he can eat his chicken nuggets with BBQ sauce! mmm...

I am a strong advocate of BBQ sauce. I fact, while honey might be a "no no," I would deem BBQ sauce as a definite "yes yes," especially in the first 3 months of life. That way, by the time they're eating solid foods, you can just pour the sauce on those nasty veggies, and, presto-- no problem!

LOL. You are not alone. I swear I love Clark's doctor, but it seems like every time I go in there I feel like an idiot. A month ago they told me that I'm not doing a good enough job on teeth brushing. Gimme a break, I felt like saying "Go ahead, you try to cram a toothbrush into his mouth and see what happens to YOUR fingers." Anywho.

Yeah, come on Jon, I dare you to post some crazy comment...

Shell I love the honey on chicken nuggets. I am also a huge fan. However, Nate thinks I am totally crazy and that it is disgusting. They don't offer just honey at McDonald's anymore which is a major bummer. However, I have converted Bristol into the honey with chicken nuggets. Nate tries to push the BBQ sauce as much as he can, but she truly just likes the honey.

Oh and the peanut butter thing used to be until they were one years old, but a couple of years ago changed it until they were two. I have heard it is more for choking precautions then allergy. Who knows if that is the truth?
