Asher Update

Well, Asher is finally here and we are so happy he arrived safe and sound!! I know some of you have been a little concerned so I thought I'd post a brief summary of the birth....

1. Saturday Aug 30 we went to the hospital to be induced... started labor that night.
2. Sunday Day--- More labor
3. Sunday Night- More labor. After all that work I was only at 4+ cm and they broke my water. I got the epidural.
4. Monday Morning- After laboring for 36 hrs, my epidural was no longer working, I was having PSYCHOTIC contractions with no breaks in between and I was still not really progressing. At this point we decided to go with the C-Section. I was disappointed, but my body was about to die from exhaustion so it was best.
5. Monday Sept 1, 7:55 am- Asher Gera (pronounced: "Gair-a" like HAIR with a "G". It's a family name. It's spanish. Yes, we know it's spelled wrong, but that's how gramps spelled it and we didn't want to break tradition.) born via C-Section.

This is where the fun begins....

Apparently I hemorraged during the C-Section so I had to have a blood transfusion. Then the next day we discovered 3 blood clots in my arm. I have begun Coumadin Therapy and hopefully will be okay in about 6 months. I get labs drawn several times a week and have to keep a close eye on my medication and diet. I am also being tested to see if we can determine when and how the clots developed.

On Wednesday we had a minor scare when my oxygen level kept dropping to a 75 (way too low) and I was struggling to breath. We did a CT scan and fortunately the clots hadn't caused a pulmonary embolism; I just had some fluid in my lungs and I was breathing well again by the next day.

We were released from the hospital on Friday. YAAAYYY!! After a week of non-stop action we were ready to go home and relax. I really hadn't had much opportunity to enjoy Asher b/c of my complications and it has been WONDERFUL to spend time with him and give him my undivided attention. HE IS PERFECT. Healthy and strong and he sleeps a lot. I am so grateful. I am healing well and have not had anymore problems since I've been home. All the drama from last week somehow seems like a distant memory that doesn't really matter anymore. We are truly blessed.

Here are some pictures of our little guy:

We laid him on his back and he rolled himself into this little pose.

More pics to come. I have some on my mom's camera. Our computer has been broken so I'm trying to play catch up.

We also want to thank everyone for their love and support!!!

I'm sorry they had to make a new exit for the little man. And I'm sorry you have to be on coumadin. That's annoying. Do they make a dose small enough for you? Did they not give you a protime machine so they don't have to take it out of a vein? Are you going to use an electic shaver for your legs? Maybe it's a good thing winter is about to start.
Anyway. You made a beautiful baby, even if the production was rough at the end. Well done.

Wait, I don't even know where you live. Maybe you live near me and I COULD do something. Let me know.

Wow! What an ordeal! I'm glad you came through it okay. My first was an emergency c-section too. It's a little scary. Your little boy is beautiful! I wish you all the best in recovering and new motherhood.
